Past Crochet scarf projects

Here I am wearing a cute red scarf I made, following the directions I found HERE at Redheart.com  (My son was goofing around with my camera- taking random pictures- as I was deleting them... I noticed, my red scarf! Now I don't have to use my bathroom picture!)

This is a fun scarf to make- and simple! I only know two things about crocheting- a single crochet and a double crochet. I have made this scarf 4 times total. One in red, I kept for myself. One in purple- I gave to my sister two years ago for Christmas. Last year I made 2 more, multi-colored scarfs and gave them to my mother and my grandmother for Christmas.

Project: Adorable Upcycle apron

Remember the bag I made out of some beloved jeans?
It was time to accept that they just aren't ever going to fit again. (sniffle) I'm over it.
Really-
I better be over it- because the jeans are no longer intact!

Now they live on as a really cute bag ...

But I have the top half of the jeans left. Not wanting to waste-  I looked for another project.
I found this cute apron!

click here to see the original tutorial- at Life Made Creations.

I thought this would be a WONDERFUL project to do with my daughter-for-the-week.

Sewing Project: Reversable Bag

I have needed a new "scripture" bag for months... maybe a year. My cute bag I used in Hawaii- gave up, and broke down. :0( It didn't like the transition to Utah climate.

I found a really cute tote pattern at Joann.com. You can see it here and download the pattern!

I decided, after looking at the pattern, I might need to find a easier pattern. I wanted to use supplies I had on hand- and I don't have any batting required for the Zest Tote. (Although it is adorable!)

So I found a great bag, with a wonderful tutorial by Very Purple Person, she even provides a free pattern to download! (Click HERE)

Happily this pattern fits perfectly on the boot cut portion of my jeans I wanted to re-purpose into my new scripture bag.
(Cute jeans- right? Sadly they don't fit.)

I followed the pattern.
I read and re-read the tutorial.
It was a great/fun project that took me about 6 hours from start to finish.

One side is sturdy denim

The other is made from extra curtain/couch pillow fabric- lol!

Sew so cute! I would highly recommend this project for a newbie.

flower accessory

So... sew.... SO sorry I haven't been bloggin!
I have been very good... on ... staying off the computer!

I challenged our family to an "un-plugged" summer.

This is actually a post I made months ago, when I was still interpreting. (My client went home for the Summer.)

Enjoy! have a great summer! And we'll resume in a few weeks!

So you know I am obsessed with all things floral and ruffly lately....

I wanted to make a flower ruffle shirt.. and started experimenting with different flower construction.

Here I made a simple pin- to add to a sweater.

I cut out individual pedals. (I folded the fabric multiple times and cut once... so they were all the same shape.)

Then I made a pedal chain.. by single stitching them together...(slightly overlapping them.)

I pulled the top string... to gather them closer together...

You could just use THAT as a flower... but I wanted something a little MORE...

So I made an additional flower... a rose

and added it on top.

This is the sweater and dress I made it for.

I think it adds just the right touch....

(now... just need to do my hair and make-up and I am ready to go!)

update: This is one reason why I bought Kristina's book!
I don't want my creations to look "homespun".

Adorable BELT from a TIE?

Finally- I am playing with ties!
This was one of my first ideas... when I started this blog.

Here I am wearing it to work...
I really like the idea of a tie for a belt- but does it look homespun?? or just flat out strange??

Here is my tie-
ready to be made into something new- and adorable.
And two belt rings.
( I cut the old belt off- and made my headband-- you can see that HERE.)

Cut your tie- to the length you would like... and keep the fAT end to make your rose.

Fold over the belt rings and sew.
Then finish your cut edge-- by folding and sewing.

Next open up the FAT side of the tie-- and make a square piece of fabric.
(if you fold a triangle and cut the excess off... it makes a square.)

Then turn the fabric- right sides together and sew up two sides... (but don't back stitch- you are going to pull threads to gather into a Rosebud.)

Then turn it right-side out... and gather - by pulling one thread.
push the tip of the top of the "mountain"- into itself... and it makes a rose... see?

turn it over and I hand stitched the back together and shut.
It's not rocket science--- it doesn't have to look great either.
Then I placed it on my belt and hand stitched it to the belt.
 SEW simple!

I'll let you decide. if this belt is adorable or not.

I ultimately decided against this look (at my age) but younger gals might be able to pull this off!

My Headband Version

Remember Disney's adorable headbands made out of ribbon and doo-dads?

I found in a belt that had this adorable lace detail.

I cut it... measured my head
added some elastic
with my sewing machine- I used the zig-zag stitch to attach the elastic
Here is my headband.
SEW - simple
and
SO cute!

Easy Handbag

Okay- Megan is genius!

Here she made this cute -carry-all out of a TANK TOP!!

and not even "so sew easy" because it is NO sew!

she just turns the tank inside out- gathers the bottom of the tank with an elastic... turns it right side out and uses the arm holes as the shoulder straps....

BRILLIANT!

and totally adorable~

(Just a word of warning: if you visit Megan's site. She is not LDS- so some of her ideas and fashions don't comply with LDS standards. Some might think I should only share ideas from women of our faith. But for me, personally, I like having friends/connections with women of different beliefs. (They keep me on my toes.)
And after all- don't we try to seek after anything praise worthy and of good report. (13th Article of Faith)
Megan has a handful of great ideas- I can learn from.
I want to praise her for her ideas that we share in common... thrift and frugality.
I would love this site to be a missionary opportunity to build friendships with like-minded (young)women across many faiths.)

Sew Simple skirt pattern!

So I stumbled upon a really adorable person in the blog-sphere.

Her name is Stephanie and she lives in Arizona- I think.

Here she is modeling how to use ribbon as a belt.

Pretty adorable- no? That is an easy accessory!

Here is a picture of a sew simple skirt for she and her daughter made together.
you can find a free- pattern {here}

there is a better picture at Stephanie's site: it's a cute elastic waist skirt.

I've asked Stephanie to guest post some of her ideas.

She is amazing- I've crusied her blog and she knows how to sew!
plus she is a delight and enjoys her life

- I love reading blogs written by genuine people.

Here is her tutorial on how to hem jeans- very clever!

Let's cross our fingers and hope she wants to be friends.

floral belt

Okay-
I had this headband
and while I loved the idea
I did feel like- it wasn't age appropriate.

I felt like one of those babies with a big flower bow in her hair.

But I loved it so much
(I even bought a brown flower one too)

And while I loved it- I never had the nerve to wear it outside the house... much.. I might have worn it out once or twice.

So I thought I would cut off the flower- since it was just attached with hot glue and felt.

and make an accessory to add to a belt.

This dot felt piece is to keep the flower pedals together

This rectangle piece is to slide the belt through...

I wore this little accent today- while on my weekly date with my husband.
Teds Bakery (north shore)- is super yummy!
I love the idea-- I recognize this isn't a "homerun" look. I think making a belt with ribbon would take this project up a notch. (there wouldn't be a belt buckle to have to try and hide.)

No Sew-- just be careful with the hot glue gun.

SEW SIMPLE idea.

After seeing these type of fabric bracelets in stores-
she figured she could make them on her own- for less$

These are ADORABLE!
Using just fabric scraps
some wide elastics
and some basic sewing skills.
I love this project!
Thanks Kathy for sharing- perfect project for our girls!
